This winter, I discovered several crumbling bricks within my apartment walls, and learned that this is a result of moisture within the bricks freezing, therefore expanding, and causing the bricks to deteriorate. Again, these bricks that create the walls of my home continue to teach me lessons all the while reminding me of who I am. As with life, all too often it feels as if our walls are crumbling. There are so many days that I feel vulnerable, weak, and unsure. However, I know now that this is a result of all that I have soaked in from life, learning and growing and becoming who I am. If we care enough to learn, to spread our wings, to try new things, meet new people and explore new possibilities, there will come a time when we must shed old layers to become more fully who we are. Letting go of the past experiences is not easy, for as our walls crumble we remember all that has brought us up to this moment, the good, the bad, and the ugly. However, just as a mason will come to fix the crumbling bricks, you too will rebuild yourself and become anew. And so, I hope you care enough to crumble. I hope you seek to experience that which makes you grow, so that you may become more fully yourself.
